Hours/Week:  12-16
Pay:  $500.00 per month – nominal stipend

INTERNSHIP JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Friends of the Texas Historical Commission (FTHC) seeks a motivated candidate interested in gaining nonprofit communications and social media experience. The intern will support the FTHC staff in developing and implementing outreach and promotional campaigns to promote the organization’s work and partnership with the Texas Historical Commission. The intern will have the opportunity to engage with and learn from the FTHC development staff and other Texas Historical Commission divisions on a variety of projects. The intern will work directly with the development manager and executive director on the following tasks:

  • Creating and building an Instagram account for the Friends of the THC
  • Managing the Friends of the THC Facebook account
  • Researching and writing social media posts that highlight the work of the Friends of the THC and its partnership with the Texas Historical Commission
  • Putting together a calendar or “bank” of evergreen posts that can be shared throughout the year on the Friends of the THC’s social media channels
  • Creating a year-long social media plan around the Friends of the THC’s 25th anniversary celebration (2021)
  • Create and distribute content such as blogs and infographics
  • Track social media engagement to identify high-performing ideas and campaigns
  • Support development team at live and online events
  • Help with general administrative work and other tasks as requested 
     

GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • In the process of completing a Bachelor’s Degree
  • Excellent written communications skills and attention to detail
  • Strong editing and proofreading skills
  • Experience working with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher)
  • Experience with managing a nonprofit or corporate social media account (preferred)
  • Graphic design experience (preferred)
  • Research experience (preferred)
  • Interest in nonprofit communications and historic preservation is a plus
