Killis P. Almond, FAIA

Almond, FAIA, is a nationally recognized preservation architect whose career spans more than four decades, including over 40 years devoted to historic theatre rehabilitation. He has led the restoration, adaptive reuse, and preservation planning of more than 80 historic theatres across North America. He’s also worked on numerous cultural and historic sites across the country, ranging from 19th-century adobe monasteries to mid-century modern landmarks.
With deep expertise in building investigation, historic structure reports, feasibility studies, and long-term preservation planning, Killis has served as Principal Architect on major projects throughout the United States. His work includes the award-winning Sarasota Opera House completed in twelve months that modernized the stage house and production systems and The Grand 1894 Opera House in Galveston, Texas, The Official Grand Opera House for the State of Texas.
Killis’s contributions to preservation architecture have been widely honored. He has received the League of Historic American Theatres’ Outstanding Individual Contribution Award, multiple Texas Historical Commission awards for excellence, the National Preservation Honor Award from the National Trust for Historic Preservation, and the National Excellence in Construction Award of Merit. In 1999, he was elevated to the American Institute of Architects College of Fellows for his significant impact on the field of historic preservation.
