In October, the Texas Historical Commission’s Cemetery Preservation Program will be hosting two Headstone Cleaning and Repair Workshops funded by the Lana Hughes Nelson Cemetery Preservation Fund and taught by Texas Cemetery Restoration. Registration fees for each workshop are per person and cover instruction and class materials.
Registration is limited for these hands-on workshops.
Please wear gardening clothes with closed-toe shoes and bring water and snacks. You may also want to bring a chair, a hat, sun protection, gloves, and bug spray.

Workshop #1 at New York Cemetery

This workshop will cover headstone cleaning and leveling, as well as basic and advanced resetting and repair.
There will be a 45-minute lunch break. Lunch is not provided. Please bring your own food and drink.
Pop-up shades will be on-site.
There are restroom facilities at the church next door.
The cemetery is located south of the FM 607N and CR4334 intersection, just south of the community of New York
approximately 20 minutes east-southeast of Athens.
Workshop #2 at Fincastle Cemetery
$10 per person registration fee

Fincastle Cemetery is shady and there will be a portable toilet on-site.
The cemetery is located east of the Fincastle community, just south of the FM 315S and CR 4224 intersection
approximately 30 minutes southeast of Athens.
