A Storyboard, a Dream, a Graphic Novel: Comics in the Classroom, a New Education Tool

Join the us in a behind-the-scenes look at “A Home, A Church, A Hospital: The Development of East San Antonio,” a one-of-a-kind graphic novel project created by the City of San Antonio in collaboration with Sydney Andrea Landers (Squidny Comics). Sydney will explore the unique creative process behind the novel, interactive, and visual educational approaches in the digital age and how she has made history captivating and engaging through the medium of comics and graphic novels.

Presenter: Sydney Andrea Landers is a full-time architectural historian and illustrator with a passion for education, accessibility, public history, and graphic novels. Sydney’s journey with graphic novels began with “AGBANY: The Birth of the Historic Preservation Movement” which was published in 2022. She hopes to use comics and graphic novels as a means of making history accessible and captivating to a wider audience.

A native Texan, Sydney began her preservation career in Austin where she earned her MS in Historic Preservation and BA in Art History (with a minor in Architectural History and certificate in Museum Studies) from the University of Texas at Austin, and was an intern in the Preservation Scholars Program at the Texas Historical Commission.
