Christmas in the Collection

If visions of sugar plums are not your thing our friends at the Star of the Republic Museum have just the treat for you! The Texas Historical Commission’s own Amanda Cagle and Jennifer Parsley invite you to spend an enchanting evening with the ghosts of Christmas past as they explore a variety of holiday related artifacts from the collection at the Washington-on-the-Brazos State Historic Site. The evening will cover everything from heartwarming tales of hope and charity to the true stories of Christmas in 19th Century Texas. Pull up a chair, grab a cup of hot chocolate, and explore the magic of the holiday season with us from the place where Texas became Texas!

PRESENTERS: 

Amanda Cagle has been working in the museum field for 20 years.  Graduating with a dual master’s in history/museum studies in 2007 from the University of Central Oklahoma, she started her career in Oklahoma history museums and, in 2009, made the move to Texas as the Collections Manager for the University Art Galleries Department at Texas A&M University.  After 13 wonderful years with the Aggies, she returned to her first love, history, and joined the Texas Historical Commission as a Regional Collections Manager.  In this role she helps care for several museum collections, including San Felipe de Austin State Historic Site, San Jacinto Battleground State Historic Site, Fanthorp Inn State Historic Site, and Washington-on-the-Brazos State Historic Site with the Star of the Republic Museum serving as her “home base.”

Jennifer Parsley has been working as a museum educator for ten years at historic sites across Texas from the Alamo to the Austin-Munson County Park. She currently works as the educator for the Star of the Republic Museum, part of the Washington-on-the-Brazos Complex.
