The Gilmore Endowment Fund
The Bob and Kathleen Gilmore Fund for Spanish and French Colonial Archeology was established in 2003 by Dr. Kathleen Kirk Gilmore to honor her late husband and to support archeological research related to the colonial period in Texas. Distributions from this endowment fund support Spanish and French Colonial archival and archeological research projects.

Scholar, professor, leader and philanthropist, Dr. Kathleen Gilmore made an enormous impact on archeology in Texas. She was nationally recognized for her exceptional work in archeology, especially her decades of research related to Spanish missions and presidios, and she has published extensively on Texas history and archeology. Dr. Gilmore was widely considered to be a pioneer in the field of historical archeology and was the first woman president of the Society for Historical Archaeology. She also served as president of the Texas Archeological Society and the Council of Texas Archeologists.
In 1995, the Society for Historical Archaeology presented her with its highest honor, the J. C. Harrington Award, and in 2003 she became the first recipient of the Texas Historical Commission’s Curtis D. Tunnell Lifetime Achievement Award. She was also a philanthropist, having established The Bob and Kathleen Gilmore Endowment in Spanish and French Colonial Archeology and the Texas Presidio Project Fund through the Friends of the Texas Historical Commission. Dr. Gilmore was an active and dedicated preservationist, and her research continues to contribute significantly to our knowledge of Texas history.
